Uses of Kesimpta
Kesimpta is a prescription medicine used for treating multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults. It includes the following:
- Clinically isolated syndrome (CIS)
- Relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS)
- Active secondary-progressive MS (SPMS)
Multiple sclerosis (MS) refers to a chronic condition that involves the body’s central nervous system. It causes inflammation and lesions, which damages the protective layers of the brain and spinal cord. Kesimpta treatment prevents further damage to the CNS (central nervous system) and treats relapsing forms of MS.
Precautions and Warnings
Before using it, tell your healthcare professional if you have any infections or symptoms such as:
- Painful urination
- Nasal congestion
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Body aches
Avoid Kesimpta if you have an active hepatitis B infection. Your healthcare professional will do blood tests to ensure you don’t have HBV, which can negatively impact your treatment. If you have a history of HBV infection, your HBV can reactivate during your treatment. This can lead to serious liver problems.
Dosage
Kesimpta is available in an injection dosage form. This medication is administered subcutaneously under the skin.
The initial dose of Kesimpta is 20 mg at weeks 0,1, and 2. For the subsequent dosing of the same amount of solution, inject it subcutaneously once every month starting at week 4.

Common side effects:
- Pain at the injection site
- Swelling or itching
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Tiredness
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Dizziness
