Uses of Topamax 

Use Topamax to prevent annoying migraines. It is marketed under the generic name Topiramate. 

Topamax is suitable only for adults and teenagers. While it is very effective, this medicine can only be utilized in preventing episodes of migraine. It means that it cannot treat a certain headache that has already started.   

Besides Topamax, Topiramate is also available under the brand names Trokendi XR and Qudexy XR. 

Topamax Precautions and Warnings 

To ensure that you are safe to consume Topamax, discuss with your doctor first if you have the following:

• Kidney disease
• Dialysis
• Lung disease
• Diabetes
• Eating disorder
• Osteoporosis
• Growth disorder
• Diarrhea
• Liver disease
• Depression

Topamax Dosage 

The dosage for Topamax is divided into two, one for the morning and one for the evening. For children age 10 years and above, the dosage recommendation is 400 mg of Topamax to be consumed on a daily basis (200 mg for morning and 200 mg for evening). 

The maintenance dosage will require the initial dose to decrease from 400 mg to 200 mg per day.
