Uses of Lamictal 

Use this anti-epileptic medication to treat people who experience epileptic seizures. Lamictal is suitable for usage to adults and children alike, alleviating symptoms of epilepsy and other mood episodes. It can be administered alone or with other medications to ensure that the treatment is efficient and effective. Lamictal is available under the generic name Lamotrigine. 

Lamictal Precautions and Warnings 

In consuming this medicine, you will be warned of possible skin rashes. If these rashes become severe, stop using this medication and report to your doctor immediately. Aside from rashes, there is also a possibility of having hives, blisters, and even sores in the mouth. 

If you feel like your seizures are not improving, discuss with your doctor any possible alternative medicine you can use. Note that Lamictal can cause mood changes and even contribute to suicidal thoughts. 

Prior to using this medicine, tell your medical professional if you have the following: 

• Allergic reaction
• Kidney and liver disease
• Irregular heartbeats
• Suicidal thoughts
• Meningitis

Lamictal Dosage 

In the first week of your treatment, the dosage is only 50 mg of Lamictal to be consumed every day. In your 3rd week to 4th week of treatment, you will have an increased dosage of another 50 mg, making it a total of 100 mg to be consumed daily. For maintenance, the doctor will most likely increase the dosage to 300 to 500 mg of Lamictal per day.
