Colchicine

Colchicine is administered to relieve symptoms of a medical condition known as gout. It is sold under the brand names Colcrys, Mitigare, and Gloperba. Besides gout, this medicine is given for treating other medical disorders, such as biliary cirrhosis, sarcoidosis, fibromatosis, aphthous stomatitis, and Behcet’s disease. 

Colchicine Precautions and Warnings 

Drug interactions can happen when Colchicine is consumed with other types of medicine. To avoid such an occurrence, you should tell your physician of the other medicines you are taking at present. Also, if you are hypersensitive to the medicine and its ingredients, avoid using it. It can be fatal and life-threatening. Furthermore, tell your medical provider if you have a history of liver and kidney disease to avoid complications while on your treatment. 

Colchicine Dosage 

After being diagnosed with gout, you must take Colchicine immediately. The recommended dose should be doubled as the symptoms of gout can be severe. As gout can reoccur, your doctor will likely prescribe more of what is given. For other disorders, the common doses given involving Colchicine treatment are from one to four doses a day.

There are several known side effects of Colchicine. Some are rare, but they can also be severe. These are as follows:

• Unexplained bleeding
• Bloody stool
• Seizures
• Severe muscle weakness

• Skin irritations
