Alendronate is sold under the brand names Binosto and Fosamax. It treats a medical condition called osteoporosis triggered by either gonadal failure, use of steroids, or menopause. 

Uses of Alendronate 

Alendronate is administered when someone is at high risk of having a bone fracture exactly because of osteoporosis. Besides osteoporosis, this medicine also treats Paget’s disease. 

Alendronate Precautions and Warnings 

If an individual has problems with his/her esophagus and has low levels of blood calcium, Alendronate must not be administered. Since this medicine is provided to patients with osteoporosis, if that person is unable to stand or sit upright, another form of treatment will be given. 

Additionally, should any of the symptoms, such as pain in the chest, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing the medicine, stop the consumption immediately. Continued consumption will affect the functions of the esophagus and stomach.

 Alendronate Dosage 

The usual dosage for treating osteoporosis is 10 mg of Alendronate to be consumed once per day. The daily dosage will require you to consume one tablet first thing in the morning. Avoid skipping doses by following your dosage. This will the treatment progress and keep your medical specialist updated on your condition.
