Herpes Symptoms

Herpes Symptoms

Herpes is a virus that causes a skin infection. There are different types of herpes virus but  the most common one is the herpes simplex virus or HSV, which can cause cold sores or fever blisters on the mouth or genital areas. Other types of herpes include herpes zoster (shingles), which can cause painful, blistering skin lesions on the back, and herpes vesiculitis (a severe form of genital herpes), which can lead to infertility.

But, what are the symptoms of herpes, and how do these signs manifest in your body?

Herpes Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of herpes vary depending on the type of the herpes virus causing the infection. However, common indicators of a herpes infection include fever, headache, muscle aches, and sore throat.

If the herpes simplex virus is contracted during sexual intercourse, lesions may occur on the genitals or rectum. These lesions may be tender to the touch and resemble small sores. Although the virus can be spread through skin-to-skin contact, it is more commonly transmitted through sexual contact. Herpes is highly contagious and easily transmitted from person to person.

Early Herpes Symptoms

The symptoms of herpes typically appear within two weeks after the person is infected. However, the time it takes for the full-blown outbreak to occur can vary individually. The early symptoms of herpes are usually a sore throat, fever, and rashes. These symptoms might also occur a few days or weeks after someone is exposed to the virus.

If herpes symptoms persist, consult your doctor. Your trusted physician will prescribe you antiviral medication to manage or even stop the development of more blisters and sores caused by the virus.
